Electronic Scams are becoming more and more difficult to spot. There are a couple of golden rules that you can follow to ensure you do not fall part of these nasty things. this is how they generally works.
Members of the community are randomly emailed with a phony “spoofed” email made to look as an original email sent from SARS, a bank or alternativity other companies.
These emails are aimed at enticing the public to part with personal information. These emails contain links to false forms and false websites made to look like the “real thing”, but with the aim of fooling people into entering personal information such as bank account details which the criminals then extract and use fraudulently.
The golden rules are as follows
· Do not open or respond to emails from unknown sources.
· Beware of emails that ask for personal, tax, banking and login details (login credentials, passwords, pins, credit / debit card information, etc.).
· Organizations will never request your banking details in any communication that you receive via post, email, or SMS.
· Beware of false SMS’s.
If you feel unsure about any communication received immediately contact the organization and confirm that they contacted you.
Request for Supporting Documents
The South African Revenue Service may at its own discretion request supporting documents from you or a company. These documents will need to be uploaded onto the SARS EFiling Website together with the notice requesting the documents.
Each different type of return requires its own different set of supporting documents.
For example, Income Tax Returns require the following
· IRP5 or IT3A Tax Certificates
· Certificates received for local interest income, foreign interest income and foreign dividend income
· Documents relating to medical expenditure
· The income tax certificate(s) received from pension, provident or retirement annuities
These requests for Supporting Documents are completed in the EFiling Notice’s Section. It is recommended that once a return is submitted to return to the item submitted the next day and check if you are required to submit any Supporting Documents.
To complete the request, you will need to upload this information to SARS. There are maximum file sizes that you can upload so we recommend that you read the instruction under the upload section very carefully.
If you require assistance with this please feel free to contact us.
